From the early times of
the Middle Ages, Knights have worn armor to protect themselves.
Medieval Era armor was at first only chain mail. But as the
technology evolved, the maille was replaced by solid pieces.
Plate armor gave much needed added protection, especially when worn over
chain mail. The noble could now withstand even fierce blows,
quite often his armor saved his life.

A fine well crafted
suit of armor was
often a warriors most prized possession. Chivalrous men who
pursued jousting fame would sometimes hire there own blacksmith to
travel with them to do repairs and keep their suits looking new.
The quality of his body defenses could be the deciding factor when it came to winning or losing.
And it was also a sign of his wealth and stature.
Today, collectors marvel at the beauty of
knight armor. Many museums have a separate room for displaying
the historical pieces that they own. We are captivated by it's beauty and design to
this day. Television shows like Conquest on the Discovery Channel
only go to illustrate this.
